The construction of a new main port for import of natural fuels, in bulk or liquid, is scheduled in association with market leader in setting up sea ports in India, at the south east coast of the Tamil Nadu state in India. The port will be situated in the immediate vicinity of coal and gas fired power plants, which will become operational from 2022 on and completed by 2029. A total volume of 80Mio tons throughput is expected to develop by 2030, and could even be increased afterwards.
Additionally, a steel factory will be built which will also require the import of large volumes of iron ore. Expected ship sizes vary between 40.000 and 125.000dwt, requiring water depths up to -16.00m in a first phase development plan. Deepening of certain areas in the port up to -19.00m shall be taken into account during design.
